This anonymous message came from good old Europe:
“I have received confidential “intelligence/gossip” about Leica’s most exciting planned announcement at Photokina.
They’ll unveil the promised full-framed M8 (not M9). Price will remain unchanged from existing M8 (1.33x crop factor), and upgrade will be available for (approximately) €1200 (I assume Euros). Until now nothing new or unknown. The best bit is that the sensor this time is not is manufactured by Kodak, but by Panasonic. This sensor will also eventually get to an R-class DSLR (will NOT be announced yet) and to Panasonic and Olympus, who are both working on a new family of¬â€
cameras above their existing 4/3 range.”
Is this going to be the Leica 8.2? Not sure if those specs are legit.

It cannot happen that the new sensor(if possible)is used for new Panasonic & Olymppus camera families.
Olympus will not think about a full size system.
I smell a crock! Surely Herr Doktor Kaufmann is on record as saying that Leica is committed to Kodak sensors?
quatsch
Putting all the pieces together: Leica @ Photokina 2008
After the Noctilux lens rumor, I went back to my “rumors archive” and came across this post in dpreview (dated July 17, 2008):”The M9 will come next year with FF chip. Photokina will bring a Noctilux 0.95 and a compact Leica “Allah” CM/Cl. They also plan to ride the M8 $1750 upgrade train until doomsday because it’s money in their bank ….!”It all makes sense so far. This is what we have so far:Noctilux 0.95 plus 3 additional lensesLeica M8.2 – only an upgrade to M8 (not FF)M9 will be full frame, but it will not be release during Photokina …

I own and love an M8. Would like to see a full frame, larger individual sensores, and bigger file size (ie higher megapix). Reasons are not for bragging rights, but: Full frame giving full use of wide angle lenses; larger file size giving more room for cropping and also more acceptance for stock photography; and larger individual sensors for improved low light or high iso results. Having said that, I don’t know why I’d feel good about switching manufacturer to Panasonic from Kodak. I like the look I get the Kodak-sensor-processed files. Plus, I always think of Panasonic as being very heavily oriented toward consumer photography vs. high end, very expensive, hopefully professional cameras.
