I fancy the idea of a new Leica R10, with technology directly borrowed from the new Leica S2!!!!!
the S looks impressive, indeed.
however, i thought i recalled reading earlier this year that herr kaufman had promised some sort of more affordable digital rangefinder at photokina – so where is it?
must admit that so far, i am disappointed in leica pricing as the m8 remains super high and the d-lux 4 now commands an even higher price premium over panny than d-lux3 did. if you add the accessories, you are near $1 thousand, for lumix lx-3 level photos! YIKES!
obviously, leica believes that there is no price elasticity at all among their user target. i don’t mind paying a premium, but this is ridiculous.
leica should reconsider pricing, as their strategy has not succeeded for them so far, if the recent WSJ article is to be believed.
There’s an article here now: http://www.bjp-online.com/public/showPage.html?page=816234
And they even put a lot of pictures of the S2 here: http://www.1854.eu/2008/09/leica_s2_13_photos_of_the_new.html
Thanks, I will updated the post.
