Ken Rockwell is now officially a Leica fan

Ken Rockwell wrote about "The Return of the Leica". As with everything else, he has some valid points and some BS. Still worth reading - remember that Ken is an engineer and not a photographer - if you keep this in mind, everything will make much more sense. Today he released a review of the Leica 28mm f/2.8 ASPH lens.

Oh, my gosh. The man has truly lost his mind.

Does he actually realize how much Leica lenses cost? Unbelievable.

I was a Leica user for 20 years. Loved them. Still love the lenses. But I have to say, I can’t afford them any more, and my Nikkor 14-24 2.8 is better than my Leica 19mm2.9 Elmarit was, which in its day was one of the finest wide angle lenses in existence.

Wow… this guy has lost his mind… What if he compares the Canon High end to the D3x… That would be a better comparison… Ding Dong1

Let me pass around the collection cup so we can raise cash for Ken so he can afford a D3x…

I am a Leica fan and I have just ordered the M8.2 and look forward to using it for day to day shooting.. But please… at the professional level.. I will stick with my Nikon Gear… D3, D700 and D300…

I also used to be a Leica M owner in the 1980s, and they were the most unreliable cameras I ever owned. I also owned Nikons, and they were not perfect, perhaps in for service every few years. The Leicas has to be repaired every year by comparison.

I moved on to Hasselblad at the time, but kept my Nikons, and they have always served me well.

Leicas unreliable? The military models included instructions on how to blow the camera up so it won’t end up in enemy hands. They had to be blown up rather than merely smashed-theyve always been durable as hell, and I’ve used every model since the M3DS since 1980 without a problem.I’ve used Leicas that looked like they’d been run over by a Mack truck, and the pictures looked great everytime. What in the world did you do to these so called unreliable cameras?I’ve sweat buckets on them, used in a mosh pit,at rodeos, etc etc,and there’s no other camera I’d choose as a companion.I wish my Jeep were as tough!

Rockwell is almost as stupid as egocentric.

I have read the article. I have been submerged by BS, but still looking for the valid points. If he doesnot know that SLRs and rangefinders serve different purposes, then he should stick with a compact and stop bothering. If he’s nice and stops posting crap, I may even consider offering him a Holga.
