The only complain I have about the D-Lux 4 is the mode dial - it is very soft. I constantly have to check if I have not change it accidentally, otherwise I agree - the best p&s available today.

The Leica performs better than the Canon G10 in everything but zoom. It is a fully manual camera as well. Plus it doesn't have a bunch of knobby clunky junk sticking out everywhere. If you are getting this with an idea to take pictures indoors or at parties, weddings, and those sorts of things, the Canon really isn't as good. If you need a longer zoom, then the Canon is the way to go if you are ok with a higher percentage of bad indoor shots. On the bottom of my Leica it says Leica Camera Germany then made in japan. I compared this camera to every other serious point and shoot (panasonic version, Canon G10, Sigma, Ricoh, Nikon, etc...) and on May 1, 2009 it is the camera to get. By June maybe there'll be another

Yes, my D-Lux 4 is also made in Japan, by Panasonic I guess - probably in the same factory as the LX3.

Indeed. Both cameras are japanese. The Leica is a Leica, just as a Ford made in South Africa is in fact a Ford. Some claim an extra coating on the lens. Either way, other than sample variation, there is little discernible difference in the image quality of either camera.

I doubt we get a FF leica or panasonic compact. However, a 1.6 crop sensor seems possible and would really be amazing.

The Leica D-Lux 4 is an amazing, amazing camera.
Its limits are those of a unimaginative photographer.

zach and lolck....you are just jealous so save it because you have absolutely no idea how the camera performs. and even if the lx3 s exatly the same, proof that the lens is even coated differently and it processes the images in it's own signature "leica" way makes it a leica in all its right. besides, the camera is made in germany not in japan, in a leica factory not in a panasonic factory, by leica workers not panasonic workers.
check your facts.
and the g10 is a bullshit camera. if i was going japanese id pick the lx3 over the g10 ANY day of the week month year decade anything.

the best actually is certainly the powershot g10
if Leica could do a real pro compact (not an expensive toy) it will be a good thing
