> I cannot for the life of me understand why they would announce the M9 on september 9

Because it's 9/9/09 which is kind of in tune with M9 maybe? ;)

I cannot for the life of me understand why they would announce the M9 on september 9, when the IFA fair in Berlin is from the 4th to the 9th of september. So maybe the 9th is the dealer availability date ??

heinz: "An R to S adaptor? Or R to F and R to EF adaptors?"

As I've posted elsewhere, my "if I ran the world" favorite would be an R to S adaptor, which would require an extender/teleconverter or a relay lens to make up for the fact that mount-to-film distance on the S is (likely) greater than on the R. A teleconverter would allow the full use of the larger sensor. A 1:1 relay lens would create cropped circular images, which could be fun. This would be pretty tricky for wide-angle lenses, but would work great with telephotos.

Still, my bet is on an AF-DSLR with the R/ROM mount that just isn't called an R10. Perhaps a "D3"? Or an "RX", like Apple's OS "10"? :-)

The "very interesting camera" may be a digital Leica CM (built-in objective, optical view finder) with image sensor greater than 4/3 and excellent image quality.

No, I don't mean the Panasonic GF1, I meant that the "very interesting" camera could simply be just the Leica D-LUX 5 (i.e. the Leica version of the LX4) and that a D-SLR for R-lenses is not coming at this moment...

“there will be no R10 from Leica, but there will be a good solution that allows us to use our R-lenses on a digital body“

That could be as little as an Leice R to M adapter with data coupling and the M9 having some kind of live-view for focussing...
He said 'solution', not 'camera'.

I could see (eventually) a GF1 style body for R glass. It's a new design for a body, and one that would be interesting to see with a full frame sensor, of course it would be bigger. Just keep the new stuff coming, as an R user, I would love to see a Leica FF body, certainly I welcome an M9 also.

Let's hope it's not all rumors.

I hope they introduce a digital visoflex. This way they could keep the M9 minimal and lovely, but with the ability to transform into a fully functional slr with a more modernized feature pallet than the previous visoflexes.

You mean the Panasonic GF1:

Leica said they will stay away from m4/3 - unless they changed their mind.
