Nothing really new here. The Thumbs Up grip has been out for awhile. This not the vendor link but a review from someone who has the Thumbs Up version.

    Bad design !

The crack initiation is here too obvious.

A very bad copy of the original Thumbs up :(

maybe a bad copy, but it shows you how easily you could make one at home.

Do you mean by “crack initiation” that it will break or that you don’t like the sharp transition between top and back (i’m not a native english speaker)

Don’t worry Cornelius, I *am* a native English speaker, and I have absolutely no idea what he’s saying!

    Don’t worry, Nick

You may not know what is a crack initiation, so buy this crap, put it on an M9, and when you will see this crack, you will remove the thing and put a ThumbsUp instead.
A stress crack is just the start of a failure. It depends on the way a part is designed in order to sustain the loads applied.
Any part must be designed according to it’s function loads.
In the case of this accessory, it is evident that the designer has followed his “zen feeling” instead of doing his job properly.

Another gadget to be forgotten, when the ThumbsUp is a real plus on Ms.

Even if you mount a telyt 560 with a visoflex on your M and you are the son of an elephant and a rhino it wil not show initiations of a crack. You must be someone who doesn’t use paperclips because of the risk of stress failure. ;-)

Very disappointing that you would give such totally undeserved publicity to this tenth-rate imitation of the Thumbs Up.

Why would it develop a crack? Paper clip comment was a great response to this.
However i do think that guy should have just given tips on doing it yourself. As its made out of a simple L shaped aluminium profile

So advertise a knock off? The original Thumbs up did all of the design work and public acceptance and now someone comes along and rips off the idea? Would not have any issues with a totally new design but this is just a knock off plain and simple.

As it is with eyeglasses/spectacles you can’t claim the use of the nose and ears for anything to rest/hang on. It is a good idea to use nose and ears for something we now know as glasses. The same it is with a grip for Leica M, you can’t claim the use of the hotshoe and the position of the thumb. The “Thumbs-up” looks nice and stirdy but needs a lot of machinery, the “M80Grip” (my idea) is based on the “nose” and “ears” of an digital M and because of it’s simplicity a delight.
It evolved in tree days from a simple L shaped aluminum profile in to a fully operational HOT grip. It can flash, it can hold a viewfinder and do both simultaniously. See the latest adjustments at: http://m80grip.web-log.nl

    Cornelius,
Was it “your” idea after you saw the Thumbs up grip or before? Kudos to you to use a simple piece of aluminum for the grip, but do not take credit nor profit from the original design. Plain and simple. I think it is the same as the replica watch people profiting off the design and marketing of the original Rolex.

I had not seen the TU before i forced an piece of aluminum in my flashshoe. I think it’s stupid to try to drive to the supermarket in a bugatti without a battery if you have a fully functional bike present.
