A new Leica M design coming soon

The details are sketchy at that point, but the word on the street is that Leica will be coming up with a new Leica M design. It will be a film camera (not sure whether M7 or MP). Also, not clear if this will be a limited edition (probably not) or a regular production version.

Stay tuned for more!

It may not be a new Leica M film camera but rather a new design. We will know the details soon.

Okay, my question is the wording – a ‘new design’ or a new M camera. I think the time has come for a new design…….but will the traditionalists accept that? If so.

Design could also apply to new colors/materials and not to change of functionality.

Agreed. Or, maybe the rumor is a little off and what’s coming (if) will be a 35 sensor body with live-view that is the R solution and it will also use M lenses. After all, Leica did say it will not be a DSLR solution. Perhaps something on the line of a ‘pumped-up’ GF-1 style. In other words a hybrid camera that is a bridge to the future for Leica and their users.

A new M? Whatever product it is, if it’s film now that’s interesting. I don’t think they tried to apply the interchangeable film/digital back to M9.. so?
Second question. Ok, let’s assume it’s another M. M what?
Not M8 – name already gone
Not M9 – name already gone
    Maybe M10? Maybe MX ? Maybe M7.2 ?

The M digital is already 2mm thicker than the original film M’s. A digital back will make it even thicker still.

A modular M would be interesting. My idea – fix the sensor to the (often maligned) baseplate. It could be removed for easy cleaning and potentially for upgrade. Either that, or have the back swing out like film M’s – which would also keep the grip baseplate enthusiasts happy. I’d trade a thicker M for upgrade potential / longevity (speaking as an M8 owner)

i would pay double price of M9 for a digital back M(X).
as long as u can upgrade your sensor anytime, means u can keep the body for 20years so do your lens~. back to the old days =D

I’m guessing they will just change the standard finish options to Black Paint and Steel Gray.
