Post temporary removed

There was a lot of confusion about the Leica student program and I received a tons of emails on this topic. I am taking this post down until I can get a clarification on all the details.

I think this is coming directly from Leica and every Leica authorized dealer will/should do it, if they have the M9 in stock that is. I will call B&H and Adorama to see what will they say.

Whoa this is huge! The price is right for me to finally get a 21mm f/1.4. On the M9, obviously you need to stand in line with everyone else on availability but I am sure when you do get it, it is a bargain (relatively speaking). I also happen to be taking photography courses part time so this is right up my alley. Thanks LR Admin, please do keep us informed as to whether BH or Adorama are participants.

Are these prices available to instructors as well? I teach photography to middle school kids.

It doesn’t matter whether the retailer is a participant or not. Looks like you have to pay full price for the products, and Leica will reimburse you once you mail them all the required documents.

USA/Canada only? Anything like this in Europe?

And an important question: Will Leica actually make any money selling M9s for $1760 below suggested retail price? If it turns out Leica have a $1760 + profit for each M9 sold, can we expect some nice deals once initial demand is slowing down?

This is for US only. Other countries may also have similar programs (not sure).

Carlos, you can get a discount – it says for students and instructors.

I doubt Leica is making much money if any at those prices, especially the 0.95 50mm. I also would not expect the M9 prices to come down, if the M8 is any guidance.

Leica USA will have profit on this program.A dealer told me this price list is very close to the US dealer price( i.e. what they sell to the dealers). The problem is when will you get what you want…
