Leica X1 delayed till February 2010

UPDATE: According to Leica US, the X1 camera will be on time for the scheduled January 2010 delivery. This rumor is busted for now.

Leica X1 delayed till February 2010

Arlingtoncamera just confirmed the news to LR: their Leica rep has told them that the Leica X1 will be delayed until February, 2010.

I see two reasons for that delay: either Leica wants to concentrate on M9 production in order to satisfy the current demand (see this post) or the latest X1 review at dpreview was not up to par with Leica's expectations and they are working on few final tweaks.

leica owners demand nothing but the best and for a $2000 compact they expect it to outperform everything else they could have bought with that money. let’s hope the X1 will live it’s leica name better than those leica spec point and shoots.

Yeah, put a 4/3 mounts on a APS-C sensor camera. Very smart solution.

i was impressed with the way it performed in pre-production. it performs like a m8 re-birthed as a point and shoot with a very good lens permanently attached to it.

it seems like its an antennae feeling out the market for a leica compact interchangeable lens system that the v-lux failed to secure

ROFLMAO. that’s why ppl stay anon with these sort of comments. you think a Leica X1 with a 4/3 crop with its APS-C sensor will sell? lol.

Hopefully they work out the auto focus speed and aperture going to fully stopped down during manual focus. The focus not being saved looks like a pain as well. I want this camera for rough and ready photo taking with high quality images.

Glad to see it delayed. I agree that it (hopefully) means they are going to do some more tweaking before final release. I read a review on another very well known photo forum and the response from Leica lovers was bleak to say the least.

I want an outstanding Leica point and shoot and am ready to spend the money. Right now, the X1 is not that product. Lets see what February brings!!

I didn t noticed that it was a APSC sorry…!But I think that the GH1 or GF1 specs in to that under M9 product more expensive that evry other camera is just a non sense!!!!But I will always be happy that Panasonic learned a lot in Leica s optical science to apply it in high tech products half price of the L brand ,thanks for that!!!

sounds like a poor camera – It would disappoint the beginners that they’re aiming it at!

Leica Camera now has a very narrow product base. The company hasn’t been able to deliver these products on time. Leica no longer produces anything special at a reasonable price. The rich old men who used to purchase Leica equipment are dying. Leica camera are now offering solutions which are laughably old-fashioned – and trying to fob off customers by suggesting some kind of purism ! Oh!, No HD Video for us ( You ) The truth is Leica are no longer able to compete in the wider marketplace. Thus Silly special editions ( Gucci Shoe edition Ladies? ) Me. me. me
