The rumor is that as of end of last week Leica has produced 4000 M9 units for worldwide distribution.

Is 4,000 a lot? What is the size of this market? Maybe a comparison is, how many M8 and M8.2s were ever produced?
keeping it dont need the money, i’ll put my 50mm f.95 permanently on one.
taking it ces 2010 for some street photos and checking new gears.
sold most of my canon gears the leica is so much more enjoyable.
So, it means that Leica has produced more than 40 cameras per day, as I read on the web.
Oups, no it’s logical…
I’m still waiting for mine….. they tell me March. I got screwed!
I don’t think Leica is making 40 M9s a day. I don’t think dividing 4,000/number of days since September 9th is an accurate calculation since Leica made M9s before September 9th (otherwise they would not have had any to distribute on the 9th). But they did ramp up their M9 production so maybe they are making that many a day . . . right now they are also busy trying to ramp up the 50mm lenses which appears to be expriencing a worldwide shortage.
I just spotted a Leica M9 in my favorite camera shop in Stuttgart, Germany. Sitting in the window for any interested taker. Two weeks ago I was contacted by the on-line shop in Nurnberg that I ordered from mid-year, and they had a silver one ready for me. And my friend who lives and works in Berlin was able to buy one retail on the 23rd of December. I am still waiting for mine from B&H (already paid for), and have hope these are good signs on future availability.
