I disguise it, although it’s an M6. With black tape, noone ever notices me taking pictures, without the tapes, people frequently ask questions about the camera. I wouldn’t mind that, but being a student without a lot of money, I hate the inevitable “isn’t that camera very expensive?” part of the conversation.
I recently insured my M9 & all my lenses thru State Farm for $130/year. Even covers water damage. Plus the fact I’ve only met 2 people so far that have any clue what it is. The general consensus is it looks like an old relic so I dont worry anymore. Not that it ever leaves my side anyways.
Why bother? Only 1 in 100 consumer DSLR shooters will know what it is anyway. And the gap widens when it comes to point & shooters. I was shooting a river landscape one day with an M8, ad one of the tourists there, who had their brand new Canon 50D or whatever, asked me why I was using such an old camera. He tried to educate me i why a DSLR would be better. I just smiled and let him babble on

I cover the red Leica logo on my M7. Someone asked me yesterday “wow, is that a Holga?” Seriously…
