Yes, I also got multiple tips that it will be available in March, but I thought it will be officially announced in February around PMA, otherwise this will mean that they have to announce it and available in stores in a short period of time.

@Lucky11: I wouldn’t call it a complete BS, though lets keep in mind this is a rumor site and speculating is a part of the fun. But the 35mm Lux is speculation no more; end of March is confirmed. the Euro price is firm but don’t know about the U.S. price, as that may be subject to change given what the Euro/USD is doing right now.

$3,300 Euro, end of March shipping. I am also seeing a lot of used Summilux 35mm ASPH being listed on eBay in the last couple of weeks.

I know we are discussing the rumored new M lens. If you take a look at the descriptive text and the technical specifications from this page and compare them with the current 35 Summilux-M ASPH, you will see they are exactly the same (word for word).

The new Leica lens which should be announced is an M lens – not an R lens. Everything points to a new Summilux-M 35mm f1.4 Asph (w floating element). No idea why the mix-up with the old (1980!) 35mm Summilux-R lens.

BTW, speaking of R lenses, any news or rumors about Leica’s promised digital camera “solution” for Leica-R lenses? A new (APS-H) “EVIL” Digilux w Leica-R lens mount maybe?

Not to rain on the parade, but the descriptive text and tech specs are copied verbatim from the current 35 Lux ASPH. A redesigned 35 Lux might be coming out (I truthfully don’t know and am not bound by any NDA), but these just aren’t the specs for it.

I have independent confirmation from Solms last December that this lens is coming out; I think this is a 99% confirmed rumor. I don’ thtink it makes any sense to introduce a new 35mm R lens.

John, I got multiple reports that this lens will be available in March, that means the announcement should be soon – I expect it to be around PMA, it just makes sense. Leica is not part of PMA this year but all major photo new org. will be reporting on new products.
Last year Leica announced several products right before PMA.
I also know that several dealers are already taking pre-orders for this new lens (will not mention names here).

The pic might have been a “mistake” on the part of digitalrev’s webmaster, but the fact remains that a new Summilux-M 35mm is coming very soon. My local Leica dealer (Canada) confirmed this about 10 days ago. Also confirmed the use of floating element to correct “problem” with front focus/rear focus reported to Leica with current version of 35mm ‘Lux asph (a much more sensitive issue with digital). No word on price, dates, size, etc … Stay tuned for more …

i think it’s “new” in there leica line up. the specs are identical with the current 35 lux asph. perhaps digitalrev just grabbed the wrong pic.
