ThePhoblographer published a brief interview with Christian Ernhardt (VP Marketing Leica USA):
"Chris: Mike from Luminous Landscape recently issued an “open letter to Leica” offering some ideas on how to improve the products and one of the point he made sounded very similar (if not dead on) to creating a Micro Four Thirds camera. Does Leica have any similar plans and if so what segment of the market would it be aimed towards?
Christian: Leica Camera welcomes any suggestion from our customers and loyal Leica followers. Leica’s focus is to provide the best possible image quality and therefore we have chosen to focus on using only two different sensor formats, the full format & APS-C size sensors. Based on the positive interest that our latest products the LEICA M9 and the LEICA X1 have received, we believe that we have made the right choice of sensor sizes."

Smart: Chris Ernhardt does not close the door to an EVIL camera with APS-C sensor!
He does not open the door to an EVIL camera with an APS-C sensor either! There is nothing of substance in that interview. It was pretty much “You make fantastic cameras. Tell us how fantastic you think they are”. I like how they talk about German engineering in reference to the consumer cameras made by Panasonic.
Have to say, lets keep things full frame guys. There are hundreds of thousands of the best lenses out there, lets focus on sensors that get the most out of them. 1.3 times crop? Lets forget about that please…
I agree, keep them full frame and lets improve on the sensor as well!
Leica has no need to go for small sensors, its always been a high end product, and introducing lower models would only dilute that. X1, M9, S2, those are the leicas.
hi, can anyone send me eanhardt email..thanks
isn’t the M8 already an EVIL with APS-C sensor…
Christian Ernhardt: “… therefore we have chosen to focus on using only two different sensor formats, the full format & APS-C size sensors.”
Christian will have to learn to count;
first, there’s the “Leica Pro Format” – 30mm X 45mm (S2), then it’s the “Leica Full Format” – 24mm X 36mm (M9), then X1′s 16mm X 24mm APS-C sensor and then D-Lux 4′s 7mm X 9mm CCD sensor. All on current camera models!
That’s 4, not 2. And I didn’t even count M8/M8.2′s 18mm X 27mm APS-H CCD sensor …
