Testing white background on LeicaRumors.com

I will be testing white background on LeicaRumors this weekend. I still have to make some small adjustments. I would like to know what do you think - should I keep the old (black) background or change it to white:

This is how the new picture gallery will look - still dark background when displaying images in full size, while keeping the white background for text. Click on the photos to see the new gallery in action:

It’s easy enough to offer a choice – why not offer both… with a css switch up top and a cookie to hold the preference?

Is not that easy because the color of the banners, contact forms, etc. has to change as well. Switching the CSS only is easy (there is a plugin for that).

    Seems leicarumors is a good job : I have a blog myself, but I can’t buy a Ferrari, + a Mercedes, etc.

    Congratulations !

    P.S. White is better : M9, black; Leicarumors , white !

I wish those were my cars :) Thanks for the input. I have to say that I like the white better.
BTW, we now have threaded comments.

I prefer the white. I am getting older, more than I really want to think about and text on a black background is very hard to read for any amount of time. The white background is much easier on my eyes. My mom has macular degeneration and for her, reading text on a black background is an impossibility.

So if those of us with vision difficulties could have a white background, we would greatly appreciate it.

I also made the font larger – it should be easy to read.

    Jeezus!
Any specific reason you had to go with “Retinal Rape Red” for your nav bar?! With white text no less!
And the same red on a black bg for the text on the header?

Just looking at the nav bar for a moment and then look anywhere else on the white page and your stuck with this green ghost bar in front of you.
    Sorry, epic web design fail.

Leica color maybe? I did not change the color of the menu bar – it was always red.

It wasn’t red the other day.

And fyi, CNN site uses 202, 0, 2 for their red masthead and a darker 180, 0, 2 for their nav menu.
        Yours is 255, 0, 0….raw red.

Also, CNN’s text is anti-aliased which creates intermediate tones to improve readability.

Oh, and Vlad, please consider yourself told today.

Now I know why it was blue the other day….you’re using the one @nikonrumors account to get feedback for multiple projects/sites.

Originally, I assumed the post about photorumors.com was about the poll re: changing the colors on nikonrumors.com.
The second post about neck and neck in the polls automatically makes one assume it was about photorumors.com.

I doubt I’m the only one who made those conclusions…

yes, I used the same poll everywhere, because if make a change, it will be for the readers of all 3 sites

            I see.
Well, if it were me, I’d amalgamate everything under the photorumors.com domain. Transfer the more polished theme of nikonrumors.com over and redirect traffic from there and leicarumors.com.

That way you’d have less admin to do (or at least you’d only have one place to do it), and more concentrated uniques. Which should also allow you to bump your ad rates.

Although the commenting section could become rather incendiary…. so many Nikonians and Canonites bumping elbows in the same space… :D

A bit difficult, aren’t we? A ton of sites use the red/black/white scheme, I suggest you quit with your arrogant commentary.
