You have to see the new Fujifilm Finepix-x100

Fuji just announced a new Fujifilm Finepix-x100 camera with classic manual controls. I know, it's not a Leica but it's good to see another company going retro. See all Fujifilm Finepix-x100 details @ PhotoRumors.

Wow, great job Fuji. I can’t describe how good it makes me feel to see a camera manufacturer building a camera like this. More buttons than necessary and it could have been full frame with changeable lenses but hey, it is what it is and I like it. In some ways it’s better than the Leica X1 but it doesn’t quite have to Leicas good looks.

Makes me really happy to see this. I really need a compact camera that I can trust to go with me in my travels, along with my Medium Format camera. I’d love to buy a M9 but I can’t afford the body nor the lenses, so this will probably be a good choice at a much cheaper price – I hope.

In the future, like Peter stated, a version with interchangeable and a FF sensor would be amazing…

Now I just want to see more pictures taken with this beauty, a release date and a price I can afford.

great design for a new digital camera. i have tried the recent range of M43 and EVIL cameras (NEX included) and the ergonomics are poor. many of the simplest controls (shutter speed, exposure comp) are hiding in submenus with at least 2 buttons to push. this is great, now, only if they make its lens interchangeable.

If the finder/viewing system is really good, then one might assume that they kind of beat Leica to an electric style finder………….if it’s good. If it is Leica should be happy that it’s not FF with interchangeable lenses.

This is not the first time Fuji have done a rangefinder, they have quite a successful line of those along with Hassleblad.

This could be very good, Im guessing a lot of people at leica is breathing a sigh of relief that this baby do not have interchangable lenses, or worse a straight out M mount. :-)

Can’t wait to see this one in person.

Fuji made the Hasselblad XPan for them.

And components and lenses for the Hasselblad H camera.

This camera looks simple great and gorgeous! The electro-optical viewfinder is indeed a very interesting thing. I’m impatient to see the results and try one. Honestly it seems much better than an X1.

And for me is not “retro”, it’s just the classic look of a camera. Thanks Fuji to think on that.

Word is that it will be in the $1700 USD range. Bummer if that’s the case. Are we sure the lens is not interchangeable. Looks like it should be. Put a static lens with a $1700 price tag, and I don’t think it would go over well.

in my opinion, it’s a better camera than the x1 in perhaps almost every respect, i can’t imagine it being much cheaper than the X1.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s ending up around $1700.

As an owner of M9 and Leica MP and Epson R-D1, in my opinion, this camera controls is what the M9 and the X1 should have been.

Now just add a rangefinder and it would be perfect ;-) well… for me at least, Leica or not i don’t really care.

Yup, Leica or not, makes no difference for me.

Using REAL ostrich leather will make it even better! :P

Fuji has “out Leica’d” Leica with this camera. But if I had it my way, I would have this Fuji body (minus the protruding grip) with a Foveon sensor and the Leica dot. :D

A fast first contact review of this camera. Wrote in spanish by the great specialist Valentin Sama:

He says the controls feeling is even better than the X1. And the viewfinder reminds him the M viewfinder. He says about the Fujinon lens that seems extraordinary with a very complex design.

Looks like this is the camera Leica should have built instead of the X1…

But still, maybe you need something to derive from. Maybe the Leica X1 wouldn’t exist without Sigma’s DP1, and maybe the X100 wouldn’t have come to life without the X1.

I fully expect Leica to find a way to incorporate some kind of viewfinder (whether electronic or optical) in the X”2″. And hopefully a faster lens as well.

      I agree.
      This should be Leica X2!…

I wonder if Leica already saw the X100 on their radar and created their soon to be announced EVIL to compete. Well, I guess the X1 is the direct competitor but maybe the new camera will steal some thunder.

Great effort by Fujifilm. I would throw away my X1 (deeply flawed in most respects) within a heartbeat if it wasn’t for one problem – size. The X1 can fit into a regular sized trouser pocket – not comfortably, but it will fit. As great as it would be to have an f/2 lens and an integrated optical viewfinder, the X100 is unfortunately too big. If I wanted a camera that size, I’d get an M9 or if I was budget limited an M8.
