Continuation of my post from yesterday: the Leica 24mm f/2.8 Elmarit M Aspherical lens is listed as "Limited stock" in the November 2010 price list sheet that can be downloaded here. The only other item listed as limited stock is the Leica D-Lux 4 (already replaced by D-Lux 5 two months ago).

Quote from Leica rep Ron Logan yesterday in Houston at a local camera store event:

“Yes, the 24mm Elmarit is discontinued”.

Thanks Bruce, I believe you. The question is whether there will be a replacement or not- did the rep say something about that? I have the feeling that we will see new Leica M lenses in February.

Yes, he said a replacement is on it’s way. Of course I have no idea if he knows for sure or not, and he had no specifics at all. He did say that the reps in the U.S. have been uniform in their complaints to management that there is not enough product for sale. He agreed that Leica has a major supply constraint. My feedback was pretty simple… I bought a NEX-5 and Leica VM adapter so I could shoot digital using my Leica glass. The Olympus rep standing next to him at the store event laughed out loud. It’s pretty obvious to all that with Leica stores springing up all over the place, with basically no product to sell, the business model is somewhat flawed… I have spent $$$’s on gear over the last year… would loved to have picked up some Leica stuff, NO STOCK, so Nikon and Sony got my business…

I don’t follow other companies that close but I know that Nikon has also very hard time delivering products – I think this is just their strategy of keeping low inventory in case demand turns south.

As for Nikon… I wouldn’t know… any time I wanted to buy some Nikon gear it has been in stock at one of the major suppliers. That includes the new 16-35/4, 24-120/4, SB-900, 70-200/2.8 VRII, and 85/1.4. Not at all my experience with Leica.
