I am a newcomer to Leica and I have yet to purchase , I know I am probably showing my lack of knowledge abt the M, But why in the world does Leica produce such a camera without AutoFocus.
Wow Jim that is indeed a newbie question. One way to answer it is: why do some people prefer to drive stick, and others drive automatic? Another response is this: Leica lenses are solid pieces of glass with substantial, but smooth, resistive operations on the focus ring. Any AF motor would need to draw enough power to overcome the static friction of such a system, and hence the camera would need to be much larger to house such a motor. and you also would need to mess with the design of the Leica lenses, which are legendary. AF is overrated.
Hi Robert, according to Leica specifications that is a fact, although Leica states that with an update Leica can fix the problem so that they can be used. This is the case for Hologon 1:8/15mm, Summicron 1:2/50mm with close-up, Elmar 1:4/90mm with retractable tube production 1954-1968, and some examples of the Summilux-M 1,4/35mm non ASPH production 1961-1995 made in Canada. They can not be fitted to the Leica M9 Titan or will not focus to infinity. Leica customer service can modify these lenses so that they can be used on the Leica M9 Titan, thx for your comments
Lenses with retractable tube can only be used with the tube extended, i.e. their tube must never be retracted into the Leica M9 Titan. This is not the case with the current Macro-Elmar-M 90mm f/4, whose tube does not protrude into the camera body even when retracted. It can therefor be used without any restrictions. Despite the high precision of the view and rangefinder on the Leica M9 Titan, exact focusing cannot be guaranteed when using 135mm lenses at full stop due to the very shallow depth of field. Stopping down by at least 2 stops is therefor recommended. Next lenses CAN be used, but are excluded from exposure metering: Super-Angulon-M 21mm f/4 and f3,4, Elmarit-M 28mm f 2,8 with serial numbers earlier than 2 314 921 Leica customer service can retrofit many Leica M lenses with 6 bit coding, please check with Leica for specific cases
this is a good video, compare to the previous 2 where he was ripping out the box and his hands shaking. funny he deleted and blocked a few comments on youtube.
Hi M, It weights 567 grams and the lens about 400, so almost 1 kilo total. for sure ! thx for comments and yes I have deleted some abusive language stuff and really negative, doesn’t add anything. Try to open a 30K box with care and without comments how to do this, I wanted to be really careful and keep the box in 1 piece, and happy to say it still is. Thanks again for your comments, you are a real Leica fan !
Thanks for all those videos, I know some people didn’t like them but I personally enjoyed them. I had the chance to play with the M9 Titanium in person few weeks ago. Excellent finish and quality, but I won’t buy one even if I have the money. Let’s see how many of the changes in the M9T will make it to the M10 next year.
Hi LR admin, thank you for letting me be part of your great Leica platform. I think according to almost 20.000 viewers over the past 3 days and many comments that most people like what I have posted. So I thank everybody for their positive feedback. Of course there are always people who think different and that is OK. With my answers I will try to serve them as well. For me your site is the number 1 place for anything that has to do with the legendary brand Leica. I will keep following your site and if I have any information, I will share this with you. Thanks again !

Thanks, your the 1st person to be able to explain this to me in a way I can understand. Now I.m off to make my Leica Dealer Happy.
Exciting camera, very boring video.
Oh my god. What a bad and boring video…
Is he wearing the “Moon-watch” ?
It looks like he does, as did Walter da Silva in the published leica pictures. I think I have to start to wear mine when shooting my leica
This guy sounds like a Dutch guy talking english. Nice to have a good view on the camera.
Only thing I don’t get from the video is the 50 summicron not fitting on this camera. Why would a 50mm not fit?
