no offense to the guy, he does have valid points.. he knows what he’s talking about, but it does not translate to his street abilities.. I only found a few keepers from all those shots he took..
I liked him better when I knew less about him. He was always the guy who took great beach shots at Martha’s Vineyard or the Hamptons, etc. hanging with the right tony crow, having the cash to supplement his famous photos New England beach life. Calm, beautifully composed, at times bold prints, usually quite large, have been easily seen in major galleries or books. I am a big fan, or was … until this weak “street video” program I stumbled upon. Is he fucking kidding? He’s great at the beach, but his chops are sorely lacking at “street shooting”. Joel, stick to the beach, please. We know you’re from Manhattan, but your inner-city shots are not special. They’re boring. You’re of course competing with HC Bresson and Vivian Maier, but they were the best. Get out the 11×14 view camera and get us back as fans. And the all black-outfit? “Bob and weave”? You can’t pull it off. It would be one thing if the photos were good, but please. Spare us those, or at least go home to edit for a few hours. Say less. Edit.
Anyone who disses Joel Meyerowitz’ street work based on a short video is being ridiculous. Learn your history folks… the man has a huge body of great work and is one of the few to sucessfully jump from small format Leica to Large Format.

I certainly hope that his prints are a lot sharper than what they look like in this video.
Great video; real down to earth guy too.
O god, not Meyerowitz again….
He is indeed very talented in self-marketing!

Meyerowitz is one of the better know street photogs. Whether you like what he shot in these 30 minutes, does not really reflect on his standing.
