How do they keep opening boutiques when they dont have any product to sell ROFL!
Because they are, ‘aren’t we great Leica?’
……….”will host a celebratory evening where attendees can sip wine, while a pianist sets the mood, and bask in the delight and quality of this hand-crafted and legendary camera system.”
I’m sorry but that is just WAY embarassing for Leica – just what does ANY of the pomp and circumstance have to do with imaging? What? No Gatsby Theme this time? I wonder what Ernst Leitz woulsd say to this???
They do this so they can sell more to the suits/dentists/doctors – don’t forget, those people buy more Leica gear than any serious imagemakers ever do, for obvious rea$on$….. Leica is just trying to make a buck, just like any other company.
Of course that point is understood and Leica has always had that clientel.
But seriously, they are really pushing the bounds of their reputation for fine optics with an even higher quest for higher dollar sales. They are creating an image of fine jewelry that is starting to surpass legendary imaging tools.
When a company makes claims as Leica has,and opens more ’boutique stores’ then when do they just start saying, ‘Fine precision imaging tools for the elite who really don’t care about pictures’. Because that is where they are headed – even further than before.
A reputation that no longer stands…
Having experienced different generations of Leica lenses, I’m finding many of the older designs (generally between 1975 and 1990) more pleasing to my eye than the latest and greatest.
This mostly applies to R glass, but also with some of the M lenses. Let the elite never experience those and I’ll be happy with older glass at a lower price!!!!!
Although the announcement seems a bit pompous, the renovation in the camera store is quite welcome. Before this installation, they had a wall with every Sigma, Nikon and Canon lens ever made, and in the corner stood a pathetic small display with two M9s, and a couple lenses. I asked to check out the M9-P, but they wouldn’t open the case and told me that anyone who would buy the M9 knows what it is, and doesn’t need to hold or touch it before purchasing.
Fair enough I guess.
I hope with this renovation comes a demo/display model that the common man can click around with in the store. And maybe a knowledgeable salesperson who knows a fair bit. So I think and hope that this is more than wine swilling and cheap conversation about expensive things.
If you want to handle a M9, go see Alan and Venus at Camera Lane.. they are excellent to deal with and happy to chat Leica anytime! No pompous attitudes at Camera Lane. Just good old fashioned service.
I am not affiliated with them at all by the way
