Hopefully with the M shipping, Leica will have time to get the Monochrom a non-beta Firmware and fix the discreet advance freezing bug.

Leica has their hands full, they can’t produce enough monochroms to meet demand and a new camera launching. Lenses are becoming more available but some are continuing as backordered. Something to think about for all the whiners and complainers that like to visit this site and rip Leica.

An eight year old has enough intelligence to understand demand and supply. A nine year old would easily understand that controlling the supply to increase the demand is no new trick.

And then we have Leica buyers who put themselves on waiting lists…

        • One More Thought

It actually is not so easy for a small company like Leica to increase production for such a niche product. Much of what Leica does is hand crafted…and you cannot just hire in for a few months of intensive production…better to have constant production and let supply catch up with demand.

Now that doesn’t mean that Leica doesn’t benefit from some buzz about the product being so red hot that it’s always sold out…but they also leave money on the table that way as well…

Even if everybody who wants to buy the Leica ends up doing so, Leica loses out on the time cost of having the money earlier…

I’d mostly agree and I’d add that the small production facilities dictate production capability. Now, once the new factory/facility opens in Wetzlar (supposedly November 2013). That should alleviate the ‘usual Leica delays’ or maybe not. That’s when we’ll find out just how much deliberation/delays are real or controlled.
All this buzz is of course because it’s a ‘new’ M, or one that is finally, or somewhat up to date with it’s tech. Interestingly (to me) is to see the internals of the M; it is now strictly even more of an electronics package with a newly, and less complicated, mechanically speaking, rangefinder sitting atop it. That makes me wonder just how savings Leica has made in it’s construction through design simplification. Either way, I still think the body is overpriced.

And a ten year old would understand that till your customer stay fidel, you don’t need to fix this.

Only a ten year old? Why not younger? But yet Leica did ‘fix’ or change the rangefinder with the new M – they eliminated the frameline illumination window – so I guess the ten year-olds had their way.
