The new Leica Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6 lens is now available for pre-order at the Leica Store San Francisco. Leica is handling the ordering a little differently with this lens: 10% of the total cost of the lens is required in order to pre-order. The remaining sum will be charged once the lens is ready to ship:

Based on a compact and classic design from the mid-1950s. The 28mm Summaron is built to be the most compact and convenient lens for the Leica M. Built to be as small and almost as light weight as a mere M body cap the 28mm Summaron can stay on your camera at all times with great discretion and convenience.

Note: 10% down on initial pre-order. Remaining balance will be charged before the item ships. Price reflects only the 10% of the total price of the lens of $2495.

I guess this is Leica’s version of a Kickstarter crowdfunding. I do not have a shipping date or technical specification, but I expect to get them tomorrow. Stay tuned.
