SUB13 (see previous coverage) announced a new Skeleton underwater housing for Leica Q3 cameras:
- SUB13 Skeleton represents a complete redesign of the Leica Q3 housing. Shaped by time, experience, and feedback, every element has been re-engineered while remaining true to the design language that defines SUB13.
- The result is a weight reduction of 600 g (1.3 lb) with the flat port and 900 g (2.0 lb) with the dome port, representing a total weight saving of over 20% in both configurations. Every opportunity to reduce weight has been considered, including reducing the dome port glass thickness by 2 mm.
- 100% optically correct glass dome port, purpose built for the Leica Q3 28 mm lens to deliver full image quality, edge to edge sharpness and no vignetting.
- Main body and handles are machined from 6061 aluminium. All hardware is machined from solid grade 4 titanium, polished and PVD coated black.
- Full control of Macro mode is now available through a top mounted dial. Developing this was one of the most challenging elements of Skeleton and a major part of the redesign.
- USB C bulkhead for direct battery charging and image transfer.
- The SUB13 logo has been removed from the front of the housing and replaced with a more discreet serial number surrounding the port base, laser engraved and paint filled red. A bead blasted, clear anodised finish celebrates the raw aluminium beneath, giving Skeleton its silver appearance.
- Every detail has been reconsidered. The result is the lightest, most refined housing SUB13 has ever produced.
