In addition to the Monochrome M body, I also think that Leica will announce a new X2 compact camera and maybe even one new M lens (probably 50mm Summicron). The silver Leica X1 is already discontinued and not even in stock at B&H, Adorama and Dale. The X2 will not be an interchangeable lens camera - Leica will announce it's mirrorless solution during the Photokina show in Septmeber.

Leica M lenses started to appear back on the shelves, even the new 35 Summilux is in stock

After the shortage of Leica lenses before the price increase, the shipment of M glass has definitely improved over the past few weeks. I just noticed today that my local dealer even has the new 35mm Summilux in stock plus the 21mm/1.4 (B stock), 24mm/3.8, 90mm/2.5 lenses (no online ordering, call them at 561 253-2606).

DalePhoto has 18/3.8, 28/2.0, 28mm/2.8, 35mm f/2.5, 35mm/2.0 black, 50mm/2.5 lenses in stock, Adorama has the 50mm/2.5, 35mm/2.0 silver and 75mm/2.5. Check also the current inventory at Popflash.

Third party Leica M-mount lens adapter for Fuji X-Pro1 to start shipping this month

The Chinese manufacturer Kipon announced that they will start selling their third party M-mount lens adapter for Fuji X-Pro1 cameras later this month - right on time for the March 28th release date of the X-Pro-1 camera. The original Fuji M-mount adapter is expected to start shipping later this year.

In the next few weeks Leica should be announcing a new M9-P limited edition set in blue-grey colors with a silver Summicron 35mm ASPH lens.

The previously rumored Summicron-M 50mm ASPH lens is delayed and will probably be announced later in 2012.

Two versions of the Leica Super Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH lens

This is the original Leica Super Elmar M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH lens (on the left) and the new redesigned version (on the right). The new version is about ~~1.8~~ 1/8 oz (50 3.5 g.) heavier at 9.75 Oz (275 g).

All owners who initially purchased this lens were asked to return it back to Leica Camera AG for a replacement, but as you can see from the picture, there are still some copies floating around that will never be replaced.

SLR Magic HyperPrime 50mm f/0.95 M-mount lens price announced

SLR Magic announced the pricing for their SLR Magic HyperPrime 50mm f/0.95 lens (M mount):

SLR Magic HyperPrime LM 50mm T0.95 (coupled): $4,288
SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 50mm T0.95 (uncoupled): $2,988

This is $6,700 less than the price of a Leica Noctilux. Both lenses will start shipping in September 2012 after he Photokina show in Germany. In the US, SLR Magic lenses can be purchased on eBay.

MS-Optical Perar Super Triplet 28mm F/4 lens

I have covered the MS Super Triplet Perar 3.5/35 Mark II lens on this blog in the past, but I was not aware that there is also a 28mm f/4 version until I came across this listings on japancamerahunter.com:

This lens has been produced after over a year of research by Miyazaki san, and he has learned a lot about how to overcome problems that he faced with previous models of the perar he produced. The lens will be produced in batches, the first batch being of 180 lenses.

Ultra compact and lightweight, only 45grams (55 grams with the hood)

Triplet design with 3 elements in 3 groups for refined sharpness

Leica Noctilux DOF scale

The press image of the Leica Noctilux 50mm f/0.95 lens (on the left) that is also uploaded on Leica's website has the incorrect DOF scale. If the lens is set to infinity, the f/16 mark should point at 5 meters and not 10 meters. As you can see from the table bellow, the DOF in this case should be around 5 meters:

Leica Camera USA confirmed that their press image was taken of a prototype or produced from a computer rendering. If you own the Noctilux, there is no need to worry - your lens is not defective.

Since SLR Magic initially broke the news about their new HyperPrime 50mm f/0.95 lens (M mount), they had to make some design changes to the final version before today's official announcement:

The lens is bigger than the initial prototype and it's a true 50mm focal length. The f/0.95 is also a true aperture and not a theoretical f value
Some changes were done in order to use the lens on RED Epic and ARRI Alexa cameras

Many readers are trying to buy Leica M lenses before the price increase kicks in on January 1st, 2012. For the next few weeks I will maintain a list of all Leica M lenses that currently in stock. Right now Adorama and B&H are completely sold out of Leica M lenses - they don't even have any Summarits in stock! Amazon has several M lenses in stock, but they are all priced above MSRP. I do not remember ever seeing this before!

RED camera + Leica M lenses

In addition to the Leica Cinema Lenses, cinematographers can soon also use Leica M lenses on a RED camera - Pier 59 with the assistance of Leica Camera have been testing the RED DSMC Leica-M mount in New York this week. Read more on red.com and reduser.net.

The RED DSMC Leica-M mount will be available for both EPIC and Scarlet cameras and it will cost around $800:

Leica Super Elmar M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH lens now shipping in the US

After it was initially delayed for some design changes, the new Super Elmar M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH lens is now finally shipping in the US. The above picture was taken in my local Leica dealer who also had the 28mm Summicron-M f/2 ASPH in stock. My other local dealer currently has the Leica Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8 ASPH in stock. Every other Leica M lens is pretty much out of stock everywhere, maybe because of the upcoming price increase.

Amazon currently has one 21mm/f/3.4 in stock for a $500 premium.

Leica to increase M lens prices on January 1st, 2012

The Noctilux will be one of the M lenses that will affected by the upcoming price increase

I already mentioned that back in August: Leica Camera will increase their prices on M lenses in the US starting January 1st, 2012. For example, the 50mm f/1.4 Summilux will go up from $3695.00 to $3995.00, the 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux will go from $10495.00 to $10995.00. Prices of cameras and accessories will stay the same. If you need a new M lens, try to get it before the end of the year.

This is not really a surprise since Leica has been raising their prices in the last few years.

Last week I mentioned about the small excerpt in the latest LFI magazine about upcoming new products from Leica. I just received the English language LFI issue and the text is even more interesting, indicating multiple new products:

"Leica will soon be presenting novelties in a variety of product categories"

The next LFI magazine will be released on December 16th, 2011 - expect new products to be announced in the next 30 days.
