Leica 250 GG with electric motor MOOEV (1942)

In the year 1936 Leitz brought out a camera for 10 meters of film – the Leica 250 or the “Reporter.” As can been seen from the designation, 250 shots (full 35mm format) could be made with one film.

During World War II some of the Leica 250s were delivered for use in aerial combat. In order to be able to operate the film transport and make a series of shots in the extreme conditions outside a fighter plane, Leitz developed a powerful and reliable electric drive, it was Leica’s first electric motordrive. In total 92 specimens of the Leica 250 with electric motor were delivered, less than 15 are known to exist. The cameras were used in STUKA dive bombers, the motors were fixed on the aircraft and the cameras were changed for having new film. The Leica 250 GG with electric motor is an absolute rarity in the sphere of Leic collector’s items. Amongst the rarest and most valuable Leitz cameras, it is comparable to the original Leica 0 series of 1923. The development and history of this, the most powerful of all Leicas, is legendary. Camera No.353606 and motor No.10062 are from the same delivery batch on August 21st, 1942 to BLN Berlin (15 cameras and motor drives, delivery number 29353). Motor engraved with body no. 353619 (also from the same batch delivered to the German Air Force). Camera and motor are in fine original condition, with matching Summitar 2/5cm lens
