A reader sent me his Leica M10 wish list. What is yours?
1. M-mount remains 100% backwards compatible. Recessed contacts allow newer lenses to report aperture setting and to allow automatic aperture control from the body. No Autofocus.
2. Live view for critical focusing, telephoto, extension tubes and macro. New Macro lenses on the way.
3. Body changes to modern magnesium and composite. Much lighter.
4. Manual winding. Much quieter. Saves on battery. External power winder is available.
5. Body design includes more comfortable shape with ergonomic grip and larger battery. With manual winding about 3000 photographs can be taken with a single charge. AA battery pack optional.
6. Classic range finder display with Live View similar to Fuji X100.
7. Body has built in recesses to attach Arca-Swiss compatible plates on bottom and on the left for portrait mode. Recessed plates means the camera body firmly sits on the clamp. Plates for standard tripod thread also available.
8. 32 megapixel sensor with no AA filter. The higher pixel density no longer requires an AA filter since most lenses will be diffraction limited so Moire is not a problem. Photographs look less digital as a result. Pixel size still allows for good dynamic range.
9. Sorry classic fans – bottom plate is gone. Now standard weather sealed doors for access to battery and memory card.
10. Weather seal design. Newer lenses from Leica also include weather seals on the lenses.
11. Wireless remote release. Built in wireless flash control. Built in GPS. Built in wireless networking with optional remote control
software.
