Beijing diary with the Leica MP 240 by Pierre Alivon:
I moved to Beijing a few weeks ago and started a one-year photo project with my Leica MP 240. I focus on street life and people’s daily activities to show how life is in Beijing. I use different lenses depending on weather conditions, timing and my own program during the day. The most convenient lens for me is Summicron-C 40 as it is quite multipurpose (between 35mm-50mm) and extremely light as the same time. When the weather conditions are quite bad with the typical Beijing “smog” combined with low light, I use the Summicron-M 35. For unexpected scenes to be shot, Vario Elmar-35-70 is very useful. Finally, I like to make some black & white pictures and I am very satisfied with my Russar MR-2 20mm f/5.6 which is compact and enables me to be right in the middle of a scene while being very discreet. However this lens cannot be used for color pictures due to too many chromatic aberrations. I easily dare to go close to people to take pictures but I still need somehow quite discreet material not to be perceived as a photo reporter. That is why my Leica camera and my Leica lenses are perfect for this project – I created a new website at www.memoriesoftheworld.fr and I post new pictures everyday on Twitter, Instagram and on Tumblr:
