A new Leica APO-Summicron 50mm LHSA 50th anniversary lens with a classic retro design of the original 50 rigid Summicron was introduced at the LHSA 50th anniversary event in Chicago (previously reported here). The lens will be available in two finishes: black paint and silver chrome. Stay tuned for more details.
Update from a reader:
The lenses were brought out at the end of Stefan Daniels keynote address (late afternoon). It was made very clear the two lenses being displayed were prototypes and not finals but we were able if we wanted to mount a lens on an M.
The silver chrome model is HEAVY. Not Noct heavy but easily over one pound in weight. The lens is in the style of the 50mm Black Chrome Summilux including the snap on lens shade and a non-tab focus ring.
Shipping will begin sometime in November with all 500 pieces (300 black and 200 silver chrome) released by late winter or early spring.
No pricing was mentioned but expect it to be a noticeable premium above the current 50 APO ($7,795).
You will be able to order one of these lenses through a Leica dealer (and probably online such as B&H).
