Upcoming Flints Auctions highlights: Leica Model Ia Elmax and Leica Reporter 250gg cameras



Flints Auctions will have a camera auction on April 27th at Stoke Newington West Reservoir Centre, Green Lanes, London N4 2HA at 10am. There are 1293 lots in total and over 130 of them are Leica – including a rare Leica Elmax serial no. 360, that is estimated at £12,000 – £18,000 and a Leica Reporter 250gg rangefinder camera (£4,000-6,000):



Lot 1001 – A Leica Model Ia Elmax Camera –  1925, black, serial no. 360, with Leitz Elmax f/3.5 50mm lens, nickel, body, VG, shutter working, early speed sequence, ratcheted film transport, mushroom release, low profile winding knobs, open grain vulcanite, counter to 40, lens, VG, early 5 element construction, some light internal haze; This camera is featured/photographed in Dennis Laney’s Leica Collector’s Guide, 2nd Edition, pp60. The Leica Elmax started around serial no. 280 up to around 1300. On camera serial numbers around 500 or lower have the earlier “Anastigmat” lens and serial numbers 500 onwards have the later ‘Elmar’ design. Leica Elmax owners often returned them to the factory and they would upgrade them with later parts and upgrades, but this example is a 98% original and not upgraded. Also the condition overall of the camera is excellent. To summarise – this is all original, not been upgraded and has the more desirable lens. Estimate £12,000-18,000.



Lot 1019 – A Leica Reporter 250gg Rangefinder Camera – 1944/53, black / chrome fittings, serial no. 353906, with Leitz Elmar f/3.5 50mm lens, chrome, body, VG-E, shutter working, lens, VG, focusing arm cut-off; Factory refurbished example with a very late serial number of 353906, with the last ever produced being 353916, dating this camera from between 1944-1953. Inspected by Malcolm Taylor and noted engraved to chassis by factory is ‘353906’. Estimate £4,000-6,000.
