Announced: Leica Q2 “Reporter” and Leica Q2 Monochrom “Reporter” cameras

The previously rumored Leica Q2 “Reporter” and Leica Q2 Monochrom “Reporter” cameras are now officially announced – this is why Leica invited a bunch of influencers to Wetzlar. I still have a theory that Leica had planned this event for the M11 a long time ago and then decided to delay the announcement. It is hard for me to believe that all those people were invited to Wetzlar just for a limited edition camera, but I could be wrong.

The Leica Q2 Reporter will be available from December 9, 2021 at a price of €5,550. The Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter will be released in March 2022 – only 350 pieces will be produced (priced at € 5,950).

Here are the details on the new Leica Q2 “Reporter” and Leica Q2 Monochrom “Reporter” cameras:

Leica Q2 Reporter

The design variant of the Leica Q2 is enveloped in a ‘body armour’ made of Kevlar® – a synthetic material known for its exceptional resilience. Over time, exposure to natural UV rays will change the fabric’s colour, until it matches the dark green, highly scratch-resistant finish of the camera body. In addition to these traits, the Leica Q2 Reporter offers the same level of protection against dust and water infiltration as the serial model. The Leica Q2 Reporter is available at speciality retailers from December 9, 2021.

Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter

Externally, the Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter looks indistinguishable from its colour-capable sister model, with the exception of the discreet MONOCHROM lettering on the lower edge of the display. Based on the Leica Q2 Monochrom, this variant is equipped with an exclusively black and white sensor – making it an even more purist embodiment of a classic reportage camera. With its Kevlar® trim, scratch-resistant finish and pared-down design, the Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter is a robust, yet discreet companion, even in challenging shooting situations. The Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter is available at speciality retailers from March 2022.

About Kevlar®

A synthetic material used in high-grade protective clothing. Kevlar® fibres are so tightly spun that they are almost impossible to separate. In addition to excellent grip, it is also resistant to chemical and thermal hazards. As a result, the Q2 Reporter’s Kevlar® trim – woven in a distinctive pattern – offers outstanding protection even in the harshest conditions.
