Oberwerth, the Germany-based maker of handcrafted leather camera bags, has spent eighteen months and seven prototypes solving it together with David Knoble, landscape photographer, journalist and past president of Leica Society International. “I wanted a bag that I could carry with me and bring a mix of digital and film,” says David. The result is not one bag but two:
The David Bag Daily is made for the everyday, when the cameras simply come along. Sitting flat against the body, it slips through a crowd with any two Leica M bodies traveling side by side in its softly padded main compartment, film, digital, or one of each. Light meter, filters, film cassettes, batteries and even lenses wait in the pockets on both ends. Their flaps close with magnets, so you simply reach in, take what you need and put it back, all with one hand while keeping an eye on the scene unfolding.
The David Bag Overland is its big sister for the trips where everything comes along. It takes the larger camera system with several lenses and adds a slim front pocket for the phone and a larger one for graduated filters and accessories. Work out of the car, off the ground or wherever there are photographs to be made: the entire kit stays with you.
Both bags close with a newly designed flap that covers the entire opening and locks with two LOXX® fasteners, so a sudden shower stays outside. Open it, and a red lining makes every small item easy to find. Passport and cash disappear behind a waterproof zipper close to the body, an iPad Pro has its own compartment, and at the airport a trolley strap lets the bag ride along on the suitcase.
