Leica M9 listed as 18MP, full frame, price = EUR 5,500

A reputable French Leica dealer (from what I’ve been told) has listed a Leica M9 on their website as 18MP, full frame, price = EUR 5,500:

Leica M9 listed as 18MP, full frame, price = EUR 5,500

It seems that they are also taking “reservations”.

Don’t get too excited. Wait till Canon announces their 1D variation on the theme. Would love it if they called it the 1DR but I suspect the Medical laws might prevent a camera using the DR moniker.

I hope it happens, but as with any early rumors, we’ll just have to wait. Don’t really care for Canon – they seem to be more interested in monopolizing the imaging market – and I’d rather have more camera companies than fewer.

Leica is a Leica, Canon is a Canon.

Very cheap :-) Big mistake I guess… Is it still online?

Now THAT sounds more like an interesting new rangefinder digital, than the M8. If this camera can show technically superior photos too, I am afraid, M-mount lenses will increase in price. Hurry for these old lenses now!

I don’t think this is credible. It runs counter to two established trains of though – 1 – 9/9 is the date of this tentative release… and the store has 10/9… or 9/10… not sure… regardless… its not constant.

The other thing that bothers me is that I dont believe full frame is possible in an M camera… based purely on geometry. To use M lenses with the chip – the body needs to be thicker than it already is… significantly – and even then – there were technical limits as to what kind of chip could fit in.

Maybe they fixed it… but I sincerely doubt it.

Yeah, but this is held on the 10th, and they mention new equipment. Maybe they mean the 24/1.4, 21/1.4, new Noctilux,… but maybe…
