Leica D-Lux 4 firmware update 2.0

As you probably already know, Panasonic updated the firmware version on its LX3 model to 2.0 (more info and a list of fixes available here).

Leica is also currently looking into a firmware update for the Leica D-Lux 4 camera. In order to maintain Leica's high image quality, it is necessary to incorporate Leica's special algorithms during this process. The new firmware will be released, if and when the high quality standards can be maintained and new features can be added without any compromises.

Both LX3 and D-Lux 4 cameras share similar technologies, but have different firmware. The last firmware update (1.2o) for the D-Lux 4 was release on March 23, 2008 (version 1.20 for the LX3 was released 3 months before, on January 17th).

“IF and when,” huh? They are “looking into it.” Big deal. When will they actually work on it? Or deliver it? What a non-event.

The new improvements of the last firmware on the LX3 make a better camera like a D-Lux 4 ( It’s a shame). The control of the focal lens and the fixed steps are essential. The same for the memorized manual focus.
Will be great add the 6×7 in addition to 1:1. It’s not the same compose before or crop later.
    C’mon Leica wake up.

I emailed the leica help centre ay Milton Keynes (England) about the Firm ware update and this is the reply :-

‘We have not been informed of any further firmware updates by Leica, Germany. You can sign up for an e-newsletter from Leica which will advise you of any changes.’

i would like to think that Leica will provide an update to keep up with their Ideology of Quality and brilliance in everyyhing they make ??
I just hopw im right . The ability to remember the zoom position on start-up is a must as well as improved focusing..It really would be a shame not to provide the update .

I HAVE JUST SEEN THIS :-
We understand Panasonic has withdrawn this update due to some bugs and
will start again on October 20th. Leica will then issue an update later
in October. Do not use the Panasonic firmware in the Leica camera.

It’s good to learn that Panasonic has provided more functionality and improved the performance of LX3 via this latest firmware upgrade. It’s a 14-months old camera and I’m hearten that they didn’t simply stop producing this model and release a new one. One who expect that to happen in this realistic commercialized world.

Are we expecting the same upgrade comparable to LX3 or more for D-Lux 4?
