Hasselblad to release a Leica S2 competitor

hasselblad rumor Hasselblad to release a Leica S2 competitor

I have been following this rumor for few days over @ PhototRumors.com. I now have some more details: Hasselblad is planing to release a new camera that should be cheaper and as compact as the Leica s2.

Teasers about a “new baby” are already online:

Read more about the new campaign in DSLRmagazine (English translation). A better “human” translation can be found here.

IMHO Hasselblad are going to eat Leica’s lunch on this one. They have the ability to up-spec the S2 and also to ship faster to users. They have already demonstrated a commitment to medium format and have clearly shown they can fight digital warfare and deliver quality products.

Wonder what the price will be… sub £10k?

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Mamiya/PhaseOne did as well. They had the ZD a few years back, but now they can release something with decent AF and 1600 ISO. The ZD wasn’t priced all that different from the Nikon D3x.

    Hassel’s site says ”

    Curiosity’s killing you, isn’t it?

What if we were to tell you that our little surprise is something that can help you get famous?

What if we were to tell you that we can put your work in front of hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people, absolutely free of charge?

What if we were to tell you that you still have to wait until February 1st to find out the rest?”

I dont think it is evan a camera. sounds to me like they are launching a photosharing site.
