Updated video rendering of the new Leitz Park (Leica Camera AG headquarters in Wetzlar)

Leitz-Park

Leica Camera published some new renderings from Leitz Park - Leica Camera's new headquarter located in Wetzlar, Germany (see the first video rendering here). There is still no firm date on the official opening, but based on the latest pictures it should be very soon - my guess is next month (February):

Ok, now I’m beginning to question Leica and how much money they actually make when supposedly their piece of the pie of the market is very small in comparison to Canon. This type of structure is ridiculously, expensive to make if they decide to make it especially in Germany.

Now u know why they are charging that crazy price for the new hand grip.Leica products are just priced too high

Not only that, they also contributed for the auctions that were done not too long ago that ended bring hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity and even commissioned Ives for the one of a kind Leica that he helped design. If such a small amount of a demograph is enough to make that much money to do the things they do. Then literally Canon and Nikon are drenched in money, enough not to know what to do with it all.

I’m so happy this building will have a threaded shutter release.

Looking forward to seeing the new production from this endeavor, if what they are saying is true the tolerances on new equipment will be tighter and lenses/cameras could give improved image quality.

This is great. The video was made with computers, but it shows how much thought has been put on the new factory. Leica is clearly seriously in game.

Must do a pilgrimage there at some point.

I’m serious about this posting. How much money has been spent on this ‘factory’ and how much came from Blackstone? They’re going to be expecting returns at some point and with cameras that have a 15% margin where other luxury goods carry at least 40%, where is this return supposed to come from. New stores, new factory while ‘photography’ becomes more of a ‘nostalgia’ trip, the numbers don’t make logical sense. Anyone have any concrete information or maybe more hypotheses?

One hypothesis is that none of us here are smart enough to understand (let alone play) the money game at the level at which many in this world are playing it. I’ll never be in a situation where those people will be colleagues or friends of mine, so why would I care? Nor do I own any investment vehicles that are affected by the luxury market except a couple Leicas and I’m never selling those, so there’s no need to fret my ROI. All I need to do is enjoy taking pictures with them. I think I’ll do some of that today. (I have met and chatted up a couple gen-u-ine billionaires. They were nice folks.)

I like it. Much more on brand than the Apple HQ, and it looks like Leica design team have a sense of humor and fun too. I really like the ‘stone circle’ of monoliths and the fact they are not scared. I’ll definetly have to check it out once it’s finished. Who’s the architect?
