STMicroelectronics promises CMOS image sensors “with 100′s of millions of pixels”

STMicroelectronics, the producer of the current Leica M 24MP sensor, has recently updated their website with the claim that they would soon offer CMOS image sensors “with 100′s of millions of pixels”:

“Since 1999 ST has been an industry leader in the design and manufacture of imaging sensors. The current product portfolio spans a wide range of traditional image sensors from entry level VGA to 24 Mpixels and will soon offer products with 100’s of millions of pixels.”

My guess is that this will be a medium format sensor. I still believe the next Leica S will feature a 40-50MP CMOS sensor and it will be announced at Photokina (September 2014).
