New Voigtlander 35mm f/1.1 and 50mm f/1.4 lenses in development

Recently the Nokton 35mm f/1.2 Aspherical lens was listed as discontinued and the rumor is that Voigtlander will release a new 35mm f/1.1 version to replace it. In addition, Voigtlander is also working on a new 50mm f/1.4 lens.

A new 35mm f/1.1 and 50mm f/1.4 lenses will be a good addition to Voigtlander's lens line-up. Their current 35mm offering consists of the Color-Skopar f/2.5 PII and the Nokton Classic f/1.4 lenses. On the 50mm they have the Nokton f/1.1.

  • Darn, it’s getting harder and harder NOT to switch to the Leica ‘platform’. Only problem is the relatively high (initial) investment of the M9 body 🙁

An M2/3/4 is a better camera than the M9 anyway. For everything but assignments with tight deadlines, you won’t have a problem shooting film. Buying everything you need will cost far less than an M9, plus with have better resolving detail and will smell kind of funny.

Love the idea of a 1.1 35 for my M7. Just imagine that with some juicy tri-x. Let the good times roll (pun intended;)

I love film, shoot a ton of it, develop myself and work in a photo lab but the M9 outresolves 35mm any day of the week UNLESS you get the roll drumscanned, and even then it would be a tough call.

Use film for the look, not to try to compete with the megapixels of digital.

not so sound like a dick, but there are film Leica cameras that don’t break the bank. seriously. M2/M3′ are pretty cheap and and excellent way to get into the Leica family.

    • Tried shooting film several times over the last two decades, but it’s not my thing.

      • same here, but I will soon give it another try

    Great news!
At least we know that the M system will have more competition thus increase the development of the system.

This rumor started with a dreaming-aloud comment on a well-known rangefinder discussion board. At that point, it was clear to every forum members that it was some fantasy comment from a frustrated user with acquisition syndrome issue.

But now, this non-sense (IMHO) is reappearing as a rumor. Well, let’s wait & see.

      OMG, Regular nailed it!
