The new Leica spotting scopes adapter

Solms, Germany (September 17, 2012) – Leica Camera has expanded the range of accessories for the Leica Televid spotting scopes with the Leica Photo-Adapter, a high-quality 7-lens optical adapter that swiftly and easily transforms spotting scopes into high-performance telephoto lenses. The adapter enables the attachment of all well-known brands of film and digital SLR cameras to the Leica APO-Televid 82 and APO-Televid 65 spotting scopes, providing wildlife observers and photographers new opportunities to combine technologies. With an overall focal length of 800 mm (35 mm equivalent), it is now possible to capture richly detailed and impressive wildlife images, even at great distances.

Leica Camera is the only premium-segment optical systems manufacturer to offer a complete product portfolio for digiscoping application, from cameras and adapters to high-performance spotting scopes. All individual components are perfectly matched, ensuring the impressive image quality from digital cameras mounted on the spotting scope.

During use, the regular eyepiece is removed from the spotting scope and replaced by the new Leica Photo-Adapter. Secure attachment is guaranteed by a precisely engineered threaded mount that is simply screwed onto the multifunctional thread of the spotting scope. Cameras can then be connected by means of a readily available T2 adapter.

Handling of the lightweight Leica Photo-Adapter (only 230 g / 8 oz) is particularly simple. A rotating mechanism enables photographers to change swiftly and easily between landscape and portrait formats and the adapter can be locked in the chosen setting with a knurled setting screw.

The Leica Photo-Adapter is also ideal for use with full format sensors, ensuring no edge-vignetting effects. In addition to DSLRs, the adapter allows users to mount other digital system cameras (EVIL) and film SLRs – such as Leica R-System cameras – by using a T2 adapter.

The Leica Photo-Adapter will be available at Leica dealers, including the Leica Store Washington DC, beginning in October 2012.
