Leica Camera and LC Light & Imaging Systems Expand Activities

The new Leica Camera subsidiary based in Munich develops custom-built optical systems for industrial applications

April 20, 2017 – With the founding of LC Light & Imaging Systems GmbH, Leica Camera strengthens its presence in the international B2B market. Lead Engineer Jakob Bleicher has been at the helm of the Leica subsidiary in Munich since January 2017 and, together with Leica board member Markus Limberger, is responsible for the management of LC Light & Imaging Systems GmbH.

The team of eight specialists, led by managing director Bleicher, brings years of in-depth experience to the company. Their combined work in the fields of industrial optics, photographic and laboratory technology, as well as acquisition and the provision of consulting services to international B2B customers, comes from all areas of the optical and optoelectronic industry.

The team of developers at LC Light & Imaging Systems GmbH will take advantage of the state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities operated by Leica Camera in Wetzlar and at its second factory in Portugal for the production of components for industrial optical systems. The main focus of the company’s activities is the development of customer-specific optical systems for industrial applications, for example 3D surveying and high-performance inspection in industrial contexts.

“We are pleased at the prospect of expanding our international activities in the industrial sphere, as well as widening our scope with the help of our experienced colleagues at LC Light & Imaging Systems. We see enormous potential in the close collaboration with the Leica Camera production facilities in Wetzlar and Portugal,” remarked Markus Limberger, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Leica Camera.
Jakob Bleicher, Managing Director of LC Light & Imaging Systems GmbH, added, “From our point of view in Munich, the founding of LC LIS brings extremely attractive benefits for our customers. Thanks to Leica Camera’s two high-tech production facilities, we now have the opportunity to offer our customers the complete product cycle – from optical design and construction to prototyping and serial production of high-end lenses.”
