Pixii officially announced the previously reported Pixii+ camera with M-mount (see previous Pixii coverage). Here is what’s new:
Update: Pixii cameras are now available for sale at B&H Photo.
Extended Rangefinder
Pixii already featured an advanced rangefinder viewfinder, with a bright field of view, independent LED framelines and a unique interactive screen.
This year, the main highlight is again the rangefinder. We worked on a new optical and mechanical design to enhance its capabilities
We extended the optical base length for increased precision. The new design also increases the mechanical amplitude. And we are now using a micro ball-bearing contacter to enhance the rangefinder lens guidance, reducing surface frictions and hysteresis.
Overall, the new rangefinder is easier and more comfortable to focus for new users and sharper for the purists.
And yes, you can start looking at these oversized lenses. The safe clearance is now up to 72mm in diameter. Plenty of new perspectives for the connoisseur.
Magnetic Eyepiece
If you wear glasses or worry about using an optical rangefinder, the new eyepiece will almost feel like magic.
The viewfinder optical correction is ranging from -3 to +3 diopters, with more options to come later this year.
For long focal lengths, like a 50 or 75mm, a 1.5x magnifier will help get a sharper appreciation of the focus point.
The new standard eyepiece just snaps in place with strong magnets, for an easy swap with the magnifier or diopter corrections.
New features for all
Finally, Pixii+ comes with a new software release that complements its improvements.
Pixii+ provides Auto ISO as a new exposure mode. Combined with the standard A mode, it means new comers can just focus on manual focusing itself and the camera will do the rest. Focus peaking and zoom are now also available in the mobile app, for example to ease the learning curve.
The seasoned rangefinder photographer will also benefit from the above, along with more advanced features like geotagging. Both the Android and iOS apps will get a new major update to accompany this feature release.
Sharper JPEG previews, external viewfinder options: the latest software release brings other nice improvements to the camera. For models A2572 and A2572+, ie Pixii+.
