What’s new in the Leica D-Lux 8 camera?

Leica has not yet released the full/final D-Lux 8 camera specifications (see this Leica D-Lux 7 vs Leica D-Lux 8 comparison). Becuase of that, many stores do not even take pre-orders for the new mode – you can currently order the D-Lux 8 only at Adorama, B&H Photo, Foto Koch, and Park Cameras (shipping will start on July 2nd).

This is what we know so far:

What’s new in the Leica D-Lux 8 camera?

  • New DNG RAW file format
  • New menu system similar to the Leica Q
  • New software
  • New design and button layout similar to the Leica Q
  • New 3” rear TFT LCD display with 1.84 million dots (source: Park Cameras)
  • Faster USB-C (source: Park Cameras)
  • Threaded shutter release button
  • New accessories: handgrip, leather camera case; carrying straps, wrist straps, leather half cases (multiple colors), automatic lens cap, soft release buttons, hip bag, crossbody bag, equipment bag.

What remains the same:

  • Same lens (Leica DC Vario-Summilux 10.9-34 f/1.7-2.8 ASPH)
  • Same sensor (4/3“ CMOS sensor 21MP, 17MP effective)
  • Included external flash
  • Single SD memory card
  • Same Leica BP-DC15 battery

Of course, the Leica D-Lux 8 camera did not come with an APS-C sensor:

The Leica D-Lux 8 will not have an APS-C sensor and a fixed prime lens (obviously)

Leica registered a new D-Lux Type 3952A camera
