New Leica camera with code name 5370 to be announced in the next few months



The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has just registered a new, not yet announced, Leica radio module (Wi-Fi, IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) that is intended to be mounted on a digital camera model number 5370. This new Leica 5370 camera uses the BP-DC13 battery which is also used in the Leica T and TL. The size of the new camera suggests a model slightly taller than the current T/TL:

Panasonic to dismantle their digital camera business, unload shares of TowerJazz


Panasonic is reportedly going to dismantle their digital camera business and place it under the umbrella of other operations (originally reported by Nikkei,). The interesting part that involves also Leica is that the company is also considering to unload their shares from the joint venture with the Israeli company TowerJazz – the likely manufacturer of the sensor inside the Leica Q camera. Panasonic is also the supplier for rebadged Leica point and shoot cameras.

The current Leica rebates are set to expire at the end of March


The current Leica camera + lens specials are set to expire on March 31st (you can get a mail-in rebate when you buy selected Leica M cameras together with a new M lens – see the screenshot above). Check out the details at B&H and Leica Store Miami (see also this post).

Similar savings are also available in the UK (Red Dot Cameras) and Germany (Meister Camera).

Goodbye Q (Leica Q camera review)

It took me a good 3-4 years of photography to know about the existence of LEICA- or so I think.

Anyway, I had never thought of buying any, until Leica came out with a revolutionary camera, a high end premium compact camera. I remember owning the Fuji X100S back then but here was a camera that costed 4 times as much, but I was in LOVE and I wanted it badly.

As luck would have it, I won that year’s Sony World Photo Awards for Bangladesh, and I ended up selling my Sony A7R and the 24-70/4 Lens to get hold of a Leica Q(thanks to Leica Cyprus who gave me a great deal).

Fast forward to 2017, and I am on way to say goodbye to this little gem of a camera! Why you ask? In the current mix of things, I feel shifting to the M-system is a better option.
