Leica S2 shoots bursting bubbles… and more (NSFW)

Shoot The Centerfold decided to use a Leica S2 for their bubble bursting shoot. You can see some sample images here (video, links and images are NSFW):

So why look any  further? It’s Leica. And even though I had never shot a single frame with Leica, what is there not to like about Leica? After all, it’s a legendary German-quality camera. Just like German cars and their famous beer, everybody knows that if the land of wiener schnitzel, lederhosen and pretzels has something to do with it, it’s bound to be quality. They’re well made and come with hefty price tag, too, but as they say, “You get what you pay for,” right? A few of my friends have Leica’s and all I ever hear from them, besides their stories of beer-drinking adventures in Munich, is how “wunderbar” their Leica cameras are.

A selection of around 500 cameras, lenses and accessories of the highest level will be presented for sale at the 21st auction on 12th of May, 2012. Among them are many important pieces that will appeal to institutional collections and private collectors alike, who equally have a sense for something unique.

The absolute highlight is an exemplar of the Leica 0-Series. Only 25 pieces of these cameras were produced by Leitz in 1923, to test the market for 35mm cameras. Another exemplar of the 0-Series attained a world-record breaking price for cameras of 1.320.000 EUR at the 19th WestLicht Auction last year (the estimate price this time is 600,000 – 800,000 EUR).

Leica M3 gold

Among the top-lots in addition to this, is one of only two Leica M3 cameras that was officially gold plated by Leitz (estimate 70.000 – 90.000 EUR).

My Leica M9 sensor cracked today

I’ve read about it online, but I never thought it will happen to me – the sensor of my Leica M9 cracked today. I cannot link the crack to anything I did nor to any extreme weather conditions. My M9 was probably from the first batch of cameras that came in the US and it’s still under warranty, so it’s not that big of a deal. I guess it will be a Leica MP time for the next couple of weeks. This is how the sensor crack looks when you take a shot:
