Leica officially announced their new X Vario compact camera (a.k.a. Leica Mini-M). There are no surprises today – the camera is exactly what I reported three weeks ago. The price is $2850 (see accessories pricing here).

The German retailer Audiophilfoto has a listing for the Leica X Vario camera on their front page. The specifications are the same as previously reported. The price is €2450 (the US price will be lower, probably around $2,850). The camera will be officially announced tomorrow and should be available in Leica stores.
Adobe officially released Lightroom 5 that can be downloaded for $79 (upgrade) or $149 (full price). If you have purchased a new Leica camera that comes with Lightroom and have not registered your copy, you will most likely be able to download the new LR5 without additional cost (at least this was the case with LR4 last year.)
The Leica Akademie in North America was launched on May 2nd 2011 and has since grown into a full line-up of one day, weekend and destinations photography trips.
Now that it’s entering into its third year of offering programs, they have expanded to include Conservation photography workshops lead by photographer Bridget Besaw in Bar Harbor, Maine and Patagonia. Personal vision programs with Quinton Gordon and now four Street Photography Weekends in Vancouver, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and New York, featuring local photographers in each city. These new programs are aimed at intermediate and advanced photographers who want to go beyond just the technical practice of photography and explore projects and themes in their work.
Leica published the last teaser for the X Vario Type 107 camera. The camera appears to be identical to the previously leaked images. Today Jonathan Slack posted the first sample images taken with the new camera (only JPG for now, you can download the full resolution images).
