Awesome design, love the simple elegance of this, have anyone actually tried this in practical street shooting.? (as a ex engineer Im wondering about the length of the leverage arm, the device and the leverage placed on the small attachment point.?)

    • Dreamer

Worse handling for $130. Can’t be many bargains like that out there! (however well engineered)

you have to wonder how serious, precise, detail oriented and skilled they are when they cannot made even okish video presenting the product.
        no thanks.

  • Flo

    lol, 130 bucks. ridicolous.

  • Banksie

$130 for a stick protruding out of the side of your camera.

The world has been using Leicas successfully for decades without these sorts of contraptions.

    • Joel

$30 is too much for this, let alone $130. But, I suppose, people will buy them.

      • Stu

        But… but… but…. it’s hand-engraved! That just screams exclusive, right? Right?

  • Bro

ridiculous design, puts prolonged pressure between the two digits, not very comfortable it seems.

  • Erica

IMHO: I like the design of the Thumbs Up more.

    • Erica

And I do use a thumps up with my M9

  • Jean Louchet

Yes Bo, on a mechanical standpoint the device should have a larger base against the camera body, otherwise as is, it may well strip out the camera strap original bracket. On an ergonomy standpoint I doubt it is any improvement over having most of the camera weight on the right hand 5th finger (under the camera) and left hand (under the lens), but this may be different with smaller hands.
In the bag, the device looks vulnerable, unreliable and unpractical. In summary I don’t buy this design.

Jan Louchet, I tend to agree, it is not something I would put on my M. the arm vs footprint would worry me way too much.

Besides, I love the way the M fits in my hands just as it is.

I like it! but you must to know that is is very geerfer for the most unrediobol photographer and very zasered jumioons for the rest of the people!!

    • Rock mock well

      +1

  • S O

    “Computer says no….”

  • Opps!

Awkward & Ruin the simplicity of the Leica bauhaus design ….and it might snap off original parts if the handle is hit on the side. No thank you.

  • Robert

I have been using mine for about 2 weeks now, it is a pleasure to say the least. i got rid of my bulky leica grip and replaced my original bottomplate. The camera rests in my hand and is more stable.Marvelous device to say the least.

  • Veronika

I love it! My hands are small and I used to struggle to change FStop while shooting, but with the M-Stedi I feel I have so much more control over the camera with less effort :) Thumbs up!

    • Torben

Scram spammer, we don’t want your stupid stick.

  • John

    What the heck is this?

  • John

Only in the Leica world can someone charge 130$ for something like this. The only way this is worth 130 is if it were made out of solid 24k gold.

  • Ronan

$130 for something that looks stupid and isn’t natural in the way you properly hold a Leica.

It’s gonna sell like hot cakes.

  • Simon

“It is stylishly packaged in a handmade box in the 50 year tradition of Leica lenses

Each M-Stedi is engraved by Walter himself to ensure authenticity”

Yep. These extra features justify the ridiculous price tag.

  • Banksie

Ironically, the photo shows someone who doesn’t know how to properly hold the Leica M. And that’s the problem. And it’s why people fall for these needless contraptions. And it has nothing to do with “having small hands.” That’s utter nonsense. The camera is small! I’m going to assume that some comments here are people astro turfing the internet for the vendor.

Hold the camera correctly and you can focus, change aperture, and release the shutter with absolutely no issues. Trust me. And trust the people who have been using these cameras for the last 60+ years. Have you ever heard of Frank, Koudelka, Friedlander, Winogrand, Davidson, Klein, Evans, Cartier-Bresson, Meyerowitz, Shahn, Karsh, Model, Doisneau, Smith, Capa, Haas, Marshall, etc., etc., complaining that they couldn’t hold their Ms steady? No, of course not.

This is simply another product attempting to address a problem that doesn’t exist in the first place by trying to make you think it exists.

+1 learning to hold a M seems to do wonders.

However rich you are for buying Leica, this is simply a very bad buy.

My suspicion is that the particular joint where the neckstrap is connected to is likely to be very weak, which means any impact or prolonged used could possibly lead to a several thousand dollar drop.

  • pooh

“It is stylishly packaged in a handmade box in the 50 year tradition of Leica lenses”

Amusing. Walter seems to be satisfied with himself pumping out overpriced Leica accessories with little use.

  • Peter

Or you could get a similar result using a gordy camera strap on the side… for a much cheaper price: http://www.gordyscamerastraps.com/

  • porkchop

    Junk, Junk, Junk!

  • Brian

    Lame…
    Would try it for $20.
Probably could do some serious damage to your M. I can see it getting hit and it would not take much to bend something.

  • Stephen Patterson

When this thing breaks off, which is almost certain to happen, it will most likely damage the strap lug. Once the strap lug is damaged the camera has to be COMPLETELY disassembled to replace the broken lug with a new one. Definitely not worth the risk, even if you like having an engraved brass bamboo pole sticking out the side of your M Leica.

Aaahhhhh, is it April 1st already? That has to be some kind of prank. Stupid thing.

  • Nobody Special

With larger hands, the M has always been a bit of pain for me, (which is why I like the M5) I’d like to have an alternative, make a smallish battery-pack grip with a release. It would screw into the bottom of the M giving extra battery power, maybe even have a slot for an extra card or two. It could probably beabout an inch and half in height – no big deal – and it would give just a little more grip area.

When I had my M4P and M4-2 the Leica winder, which was a bit too tall, really helped the handling with some of the larger M lenses, but it wasn’t ideal. This is where I think Leica is close to brainless/stubborn when it comes to useable accessories. Even the latter M winder, which I also used on my M6ttl, while smaller, could have had a realease on top the (too short/small) grip. Using the shutter release was less the smooth, so why not just have another button-release on the motor/grip.

Leicagoodies Sling + Gordy’s wrist strap is my choice of ergonomics enhancement for a film M and ThumbsUp + Gordy’s wrist strap combo for digital Ms.
