The Leica M Monochrom ($7,950) was named as “Editor’s Choice Award” in American Photo’s annual “Gear of the Year” feature. The camera received a two-page spread in the December 2012 issue:

The Leica M Monochrom is featured first and its technical specifications are discussed. That the camera is deemed culturally relevant and technically superior to B&W images taken by color cameras.
