Norbert Windecker published the first review of the new Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16–35 f/3.5–4.5 ASPH lens that was announced yesterday:
“I would like to attach a point at the end. The topic autofocus. This is similar to that of the 24-90. He is fast and quiet. Only in the infinite range of landscape shots he sometimes zips around a bit. Presumably it was due to the large field of view and weak contrast at a distance. Here, perhaps the contrast AF sometimes reaches its limits when the object is very small and far away. For example, a landscape shot of a few trees on the horizon in the infinite range. At least that’s my theory. But it can also be good that there is still a need for optimization due to the prototype status. But basically there is not really anything to moan about autofocus.”
Another 16-35mm lens review by Armstrong Millar:
“I had to opportunity to shot a range of subjects during the time I had this lens and found that each time this lens will produce truly excellent results and will be certainly be an addition to my camera bag on my next trip. Best not to think of it as a Zoom lens but as a bag of Primes 16,19,21 24,28 and 35.. Seems like a bargain to me.”
