Extremely interesting comments from Stefan Daniel: Leica mirrorless medium format camera, M camera with EVF, and more

Stefan Daniel (Leica Executive Vice President of Technology and Operations) spoke to members of the Leica Society International in Dublin on October 14 and had some very interesting comments/remarks – here is a recap:

  • The Leica CL system is dead (reported multiple times on the blog)
  • Leica mirrorless medium format camera is scheduled for production in 2025 (see the first picture of the Leica S mirrorless medium format camera)
  • New Leica film camera “not so much a myth” (Leica M6 camera reissue)
  • In-body stabilization for the M system is not visible because of size constraints
  • Leica M camera with EVF (rumored for years) – I will use a quote here: “Stefan surprised the audience by saying that if there were sufficient demand, Leica would consider producing an M with EVF. Asked how many they would need to sell in order to make such a decision, he estimated a couple of thousand”. Update – the quote was later clarified as “several thousand”.
  • Leica Q3 is coming: “Asked when the Q3 would be launched, Stefan obviously couldn’t make a prediction. However, when a delegate raised the prospect of a Q with a longer lens — 50 mm has been discussed on forums — Stefan smiled enigmatically and said that this was a question that had often been asked. But he could not say categorically no. I found this rather surprising.”

Adobe announced partnership with Leica Camera to add provenance and content authenticity at the point of capture for the Leica M11 camera

During the 2022 Adobe Max conference, Adobe announced a new partnership between the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and Leica Camera to add content credentials in Photoshop for the Leica M11 camera:

“Today marks an exciting milestone in our mission as we announce partnerships with industry-leading camera manufacturers, Leica and Nikon, to implement provenance technology into two exhibiting cameras — Leica’s iconic M11 Rangefinder and Nikon’s industry-leading mirrorless Z 9, bringing provenance and authenticity to digital images at the point of capture.

Both partnerships will advance the CAI’s efforts of empowering millions of photographers everywhere to attach provenance to their images at the point of capture, creating a chain of authenticity from camera to cloud. It’s a critical step in bolstering trust to combat the pervasive issues of plagiarism, as well as misinformation and disinformation.”

Adobe also announced major updates for Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro:
