Leica’s management did in fact once consider making a medium-format film camera system


On April 1st, I posted a joke about Leica rumored to announce a new medium format film camera with a fixed lens. While this was obviously an April fool’s joke, it turns out that Leica’s upper management did in fact once consider making a medium-format film camera system (not with a fixed lens). In May 2000 Leica’s CEO at that time Hanns-Peter Cohn (CEO from 1999 to 2005) announced that Leica was considering the development of exactly such a camera! More rumors: Leica Q2 James Bond 007 limited edition camera and Leica Q2 Monochrom camera


An update on the rumored Leica Q2 limited edition camera: Leica is rumored to announce a new Leica Q2 James Bond limited edition in black and British green leather and a special wooden box. This should not be a surprise because James Bond likes Leica cameras 🙂 The new “No Time to Die” James Bond movie will be released on November 20, so this should give you an idea on when to expect the new Q2 limited edition 007 camera:

7Artisans 35mm f/1.4 vs. Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 lens comparison


Here is a quick side by side comparison between the new 7Artisans 35mm f/1.4 lens priced at $430 and the latest version of the Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH lens priced at around $6,000 (special thanks to the always helpful Vi Vante for providing the limited edition 35mm Summilux lens used in this test):


The JPG photos were not manipulated (SOOC: straight out of the camera). Lens detection was turned off. The full set of JPG files is available on Flickr (10 shots from the 7artisans and 10 shots from the 35mm Summilux). The DNG files can be downloaded at Dropbox and WeTransfer.
