A new Leica CL Carbon Limited Edition mirrorless camera was announced in Japan. Only 50 pieces will be produced. Shipping starts on September 12. The suggested retail price is 390,000 yen (body only) or around $3,500 (regular US price: $2,795).

There have been some unconfirmed reports online that Panasonic may announce a new full frame mirrorless camera with a Leica SL mount on September 25th. I simply cannot imagine a Leica SL camera with a Panasonic or Olympus lens attached to it and I just don’t see how Leica will go in this direction unless they are really desperate with their SL/TL product line (which I don’t think they are). Leica already has a decent number of mirrorless lenses and I don’t see any benefit for them to share their mount with Pasnionic and/or Olympus. What do you think?

Leica is rumored to offer a M10-P upgrade option for current M10 owners that is supposed to start early next year. The upgrade offer will include the shutter, touchscreen functionality, spirit level and the top plate. The price of the complete upgrade package will cost around 2000 euros/dollars (price not confirmed yet). A smaller upgrade package will also be available. The official announcement will happen later this year.
