Leica Store San Francisco to open on June 30th

The new Leica Store in San Francisco will open on June 30th, 2014. The exact address is 463 Bush St. (almost directly across from the Dragon Gate, the entrance to China town). Did Leica take the idea for the new T camera interface from AppCam?

Few days ago I received an email from AppCam where the founder Jürgen Habenstein claims that he presented the AppCam OS to Leica Camera, but the company was not interested in implementing their touchscreen OS solution (which at that stage I believe is just a prototype). Two years later, Leica announced their T mirrorless camera with a similar touchscreen interface. What do you guys think, does AppCam have a case here? Here is the full text of the email:

New Leica accessories: soft release buttons and 32GB SD memory cards

Leica Camera announced new “Leica branded” soft release buttons and 32GB SD memory cards. The soft release buttons are with a painted brass finish and come in four different designs and two sizes (12mm and 8mm). They can also be worn as pins on jackets (see the attached pictured at the bottom of this post). Only 1,000 of those buttons will be produced.

The 32GB Leica SD class 10 memory card offers 17 MB/s write and 24 MB/s read speed (also limited to 1,000 pieces).

Eli, by the way, is definitely in the big leagues. He has been with Magnum Photos for 30 years, has published two critically acclaimed books “Beirut” and “Black in America”, and he is a professor of photojournalism at The University of Texas at Austin. A retrospective of Eli’s career will soon appear from UT Press.

Furthermore, how is this rookie to take it when Eli says, “… in the future, people will be copying what he is doing.”

A piece of cake

Purchasing the 50mm Noctilux f/0.95 two years ago was a mammoth decision. Shortly after I thought, what an earth have I done. What a load of rubbish this lens was. I struggled with it on the M9 but not all the time. The only focus point where you could be safe was dead in the centre on the split screen. Compromising on composition at every turn. The results were amazing when you could get it right. I struggled also with the disappointing focus length at short distance, not quite getting close enough when I wanted to. The sharpness was a little sketchy also at times in the beginning, wide open and in my mind I was thinking how cute it would be to have a normal little 50mm f1.4.
